Tennis player Medvedev closed the gap on the first racket of the world Djokovic

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) published an updated rating of the organization the day before. The main news is that the second racket of the world, Daniil Medvedev, has significantly reduced the gap from Novak Djokovic and may become the leader of the list before the end of the month.

Until recently, the gap between Djokovic and the Russian was 2440 points. However, on Monday, the Serbian lost 2,000 points for winning the Australian Open in 2021, as a result of which Medvedev reduced the gap from the leader to 440 points.

Now the main question: what should Daniel do in order to lead the rating in the coming days? There are several options at once. The first is if Medvedev scores more points at the tournament in Acapulco than Djokovic in the parallel competition in Dubai. Also, the Russian can overtake the Serb if Novak does not reach the quarterfinal stage in the Emirates, and Daniil himself will reach at least the second round in Mexico.

At a press conference before the tournament in the UAE, Djokovic was asked, among other things, about the fight for leadership in the rankings. The Serb stressed that he has no doubt that one day Medvedev will become the number one in world tennis. "If it happens already this week, I will be the first to congratulate him," Djokovic said.

And a little earlier, in an interview with the Serbian media, Novak spoke about a conversation with Medvedev immediately after the final of the Australian Open, in which the Russian lost to Spaniard Rafael Nadal in a dramatic fight.

- Medvedev wrote to me 45 minutes after the match with Nadal. We exchanged messages, but I will not reveal the essence. I really like that Daniil is real, original, always says what he thinks, - said Djokovic.

Andrey Rublev was noted for a unique achievement: in just a day, he first became the winner of the singles tournament of the ATP series in Marseille, and then won the doubles competition.

In recent months, Andrey has not been very successful in singles tournaments on large forums. Last year, his best result at the Helmets was the quarter-final in Australia, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. Then there was a departure already in the starting round at Roland Garros, in the fourth - at Wimbledon, in the third - at the US Open in New York. This year, the unsuccessful streak continued in Melbourne, where Rublev failed to reach the fourth round, losing to Croatian Marin Cilic.

In connection with the latest results, success in Marseille turned out to be very useful for Andrey. In the decisive match, Rublev was collected and did not allow the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime to win the title - 7:5, 7:6.

Just a couple of hours later, Andrey also became the winner of the doubles tournament, defeating the South African Raven Clasen and the representative of Japan Ben McLachlan together with the Ukrainian Denis Molchanov in the final - 4:6, 7:5, 10:7.
