The Congress proposed to give a green card to whistleblowers about doping in Russia

Democrat Steve Cohen has introduced a bill in Congress to grant residency to Russian doping whistleblowers in Russia, according to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) Twitter page.

“We must be on the side of courageous people who are willing to risk their well-being to protect clean sport, the rights of athletes and the principles of fair play,” USADA head Travis Tygart was quoted as saying in the message.

Cohen's official web page says the bill was introduced following the Beijing Winter Olympics, where Russia has once again caused a scandal over doping violations. "In order to protect athletes abroad and keep international sport clean, the Helsinki Commission continues to take action to find and provide asylum to whistleblowers," the press release said.

At the Olympic Games, the Russian team, which included 15-year-old Kamila Valieva, won Olympic gold in the team figure skating tournament, the Americans took second place. Almost immediately after the victory of the Russian athletes, information appeared that a banned substance was found in Valieva's doping tests, taken back in December.
