IIHF suspended Russia and Belarus

Ice Hockey Federations of Russia and Belarus are deprived of membership in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), bbabo.net correspondent reports. The decision on this was made at an extraordinary meeting of the organization.

Thus, the participation of all Russian and Belarusian national teams and clubs in any age category and in all competitions or events under the auspices of the IIHF has been suspended. The national teams of both countries will not perform at the 2022 World Cup in Finland.

In addition, Russia was deprived of the right to host the World Youth Championship, which was supposed to be held in December 2022 - January 2023 in Novosibirsk and Omsk. In the near future, another host country of the tournament will be determined.

"These actions were initiated by the Council so that the IIHF can ensure the safety of the IIHF championships and all participating players, officials and fans," the statement said.

We will remind, earlier FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participation in all international competitions.
