Shpilevsky told the truth about Kairat and the difficulties of working in Kazakhstan

The former head coach of "Kairat" Alexei Shpilevsky in an interview with the "Championship" spoke about his work in Kazakhstan and explained why he did not succeed in the second Bundesliga.

Under the leadership of Shpilevsky, Almaty residents became champions for the first time in 16 years, winning the KPL-2020 gold. A few days ago, the specialist headed the Cypriot "Aris".

Are you surprised you weren't given more time at the Erzgebirge? Or, given the lack of transfers, it would hardly be possible to improve something globally?

- Something would change. But support was needed. In "Kairat" I felt it, the owner of the club is a man of his word. He helped, listened, selected players according to the philosophy. And it came back to him in full, we became champions. Unfortunately, this was not the case in Germany. Plus, perhaps there was a biased attitude - I have a Belarusian surname, one way or another, I am a foreigner, although I know German perfectly. For them, the championship with “Kairat” hardly meant anything. Although I worked in difficult conditions, there is a specific championship, rivals, the team has not won a title for 16 years. I don't think any foreigner would have worked there even for a week with all these influences.

- That is, because of the lack of a German passport, you were treated like a stranger?

- I wouldn't use that wording. After all, I have lived in Germany almost all my life. Graduated from school, university. But each mentality has its own nuances. I didn't feel as comfortable as in Kairat. I already said in some interview that there is your girlfriend, but there is not yours.

- How many clubs have approached you during this six-month period?

- There were options, including those from Western Europe. But it is important for me to have a common view with the leadership. I don't want to be a temporary coach. I need a long term project.

- Not so long ago, people in Russia were interested in you - there were contacts with Dynamo, they talked about CSKA, Krasnodar. Was it possible to lead the RPL club in the last six months?

- There was no concrete proposal. Agents called and asked. But no more. All interesting clubs are usually busy.

- Coming back to you - there was work in Dynamo (Brest), the championship with Kairat, not the most successful experience in Germany, now Cyprus. One way or another, you moved from the post-Soviet space to Europe. Is it important for you to develop in the European direction?

- Certainly. But I don't want to guess. I don't want to sit around dreaming. We have to work every day, develop the team. Let's see what will happen next.

The European club walked away from defeat in the last minutes in the first match under Shpilevsky

After leaving Kairat in the summer of 2021, he took over the German Bundesliga club Erzgebirge, but worked there until September. After that, the Belarusian remained without a team until he found a job in the Cypriot club.
