Toronto company hopes to ship high-tech bike around the world this spring

Release to come a year after Vanhawks raised nearly $1 million for the bike's development.

A high-tech bike created in Toronto is hitting the pavement this spring after years of development and a crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $1 million.

Makers of the Vanhawks Valour, a carbon-fibre bike that tracks cycling habits on a mobile application, say the cycle is still in production, and will ship later this year.

“We are just finalizing how things are manufactured and how things fit together,” said Devin McDonald, Vanhawks’ director of operations. “We are working through the final kinks.”

The release will come a year after 802 funders put forward cash to become early adopters of the bike’s technology, which includes a Bluetooth connection that gives turn-by-turn directions, sensors for blind-spot detection, a GPS-equipped accelerator and LED indicator lights.
