French biathlete wins first World Cup

Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet won ahead of schedule in the overall standings of the 2021/22 World Cup, becoming the owner of the Big Crystal Globe for the first time in his career, reports bbabo.net.

Fillon Maillet finished second in the mass start at the Estonian Otepää, which allowed him to win the overall standings with three races before the end of the season. He has 870 points, while Frenchman Emilien Jacquelin, who is in second place, has 625 points.

Fillon Maillet became the fourth Frenchman to win the Grand Crystal Globe after Patrice Bailly-Salen, Raphael Poiret and Martin Fourcade.

Norwegian Vetle Sjöstad Christiansen won the race, another Norwegian Sivert Bakken closed the top three.

Recall that at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, Fillon Maillet won two gold medals - in the individual race for 20 kilometers and in the pursuit for 12.5 kilometers.
