You just pissed me off. Boxer accuses Canelo of 'betrayal'

Lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) said he felt "betrayed" when senior gym mate Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) criticized him for his indiscipline and allegedly flippant attitude to the craft. His words are quoted by bbabo.net.

Garcia was shocked by the fact that Canelo made such comments publicly and not behind closed doors.

“It hurt me a little. Was I shocked? Yes,” Garcia admitted. “I was a little confused. I didn’t understand why he said something like that, especially in the media. Because he could definitely come up and say me personally."

“Of course, I took it as disloyalty, because I myself would never do this to him. I would never talk behind his back about him in the hall, or what I think he should do. We are a team. We shouldn't talk bad about each other. He is a great fighter and I wish him the best. But when he said that, I felt betrayed," the boxer said.

"I don't know what his motives were. What message was he trying to convey? You just crap on me. How can that motivate me? I'm my own motivator. I don't need motivation," Garcia added.

Ryan previously trained with Canelo coach Eddie Reynoso, but then announced his decision to change his mentor.
