The crew of the ship beat the world champion in athletics and threw him overboard

Reigning world champion javelin thrower Anderson Peters of Grenada was beaten and thrown overboard a boat during an altercation with crew members of a seagoing vessel, reports the Guardian.

The incident took place in the harbor of Grenada. In the video released, Peters got into an altercation with several men, during which the athlete was punched and kicked and then thrown overboard. Peters recently returned to Grenada after winning silver at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. Nothing is known about the health status of the athlete at the moment.

The Harbor Master cruise boat on which the altercation took place is owned by Trinidadian Adrian Skoon. It is noted that local residents complained several times to the owner of the vessel because of the parties taking place there. However, the Grenada authorities reported that the owner of the boat has all the necessary permits to operate. The police launched an investigation.

The Grenada Sports Association called "cowardly the actions of five people who attacked a national sports icon and hero."

Peters is 24 years old. He is a two-time world champion in javelin throw (2019, 2022). Also on his account is the gold of the Pan American Games, silver and bronze of the Commonwealth Games.
