The State Duma reacted to information about violations of Russians in the WADA report

Everyone understands that the sanctions against Russian sports will soon end, perhaps some new decisions are being prepared, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova told RBC, commenting on the WADA report on anti-doping violations for 2019.

“It’s very strange for me that neither 2018 nor 2020 nor 2021 is compared. Apparently, then we do not take the first place. Everyone already understands that the sanctions will end soon, and they are preparing the public for some other kind of decision, perhaps. You have to understand that we have more testing than others, ”Zhurova said.

Earlier, WADA published a report on anti-doping rule violations in 2019, according to which Russian athletes committed them more often than others. The agency recorded 167 violations by Russians, 157 by Italians and 152 by Indian athletes.

According to Zhurova, a violation of anti-doping rules can be recorded "simply in the fact that the athlete did not appear for doping control or was late for it, the commissioner did not wait."

“We need to look at what these violations are and systematize them. Doping is one thing, anti-doping rule violation is another. All of this is included in one thing, ”said the Olympic champion.

In December 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that until December 16, 2022, Russian athletes cannot participate in major international competitions (including the Olympics and World Championships) under the Russian flag; they are also prohibited from using the anthem and other national symbols (coat of arms, tricolor).

Also, Russia has no right to apply for major international competitions, with rare exceptions.
