Former Formula 1 driver to be tried for exploding a firecracker in his son-in-law's office

Former Formula 1 driver Frenchman Jean Alesi and his son will stand trial for damaging property using dangerous means. According to France24, the trial will take place in 2023.

Alesi, his son and a friend detonated a large firecracker on Sunday, sticking it into the window frame of an architectural office in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, where Alesi’s sister’s husband, whom she is currently divorcing, works with. The explosion broke the window, the son-in-law complained about Alesi to the prosecutor's office.

The ex-racer used Jose's brother's car to drive to his son-in-law's office, so the police first arrested him, but Alesi later surrendered himself to the police. He said that he bought a firecracker in Italy and wanted to make fun of his son-in-law, but did not expect that the window would burst because of the explosion.

Ralf Schumacher advised Mazepin not to compete in Formula 1 Formula 1

Antoine Wolff, deputy prosecutor of the city of Nimes, where the former pilot will be tried, said he was skeptical about Alesi's explanations. “I'm pretty skeptical about this 'joke' done at 10:00 pm, when the person they wanted to joke about didn't understand what happened,” Wolf said.

On Tuesday, the police released Alesi and his son, they will await trial at large.

Alesi is 57 years old and competed in Formula 1 from 1989-2001 for Benetton, Ferrari, Tyrrell, Prost, Jordan and Sauber.
