European champion announces dismissal after mask scandal

European swimming champion Vitalina Simonova said she was fired from her job after a scandal over a coach at the end of November at the St. Petersburg Pulkovo airport. She wrote about this on Instagram.

“I am writing this post with pain in my soul from the realization that not everything is fair in our life, especially now. Many people know that my coach and I are defending our rights to “breathe freely”, and it turned out to be quite expensive (court sessions, legal assistance, living in St. Petersburg, linguistic expertise). And I was even fired from my job, ”wrote Simonova, without specifying where she was fired from.

The coach detained in Pulkovo said that he "almost suffocated" in the cell. Others She stated that together with the coach they had gained invaluable, albeit difficult experience, and also thanked everyone for their support.

Simonova asked for financial assistance. “Now in Novosibirsk we will continue to defend our rights, because we understand that this situation concerns all of us. At this stage, I am asking you for financial assistance for such a personal and at the same time common cause. We will be very grateful to everyone, ”the athlete wrote.

At the end of November, Simonova's coach Alexander Ilyin was detained at the St. Petersburg airport for refusing to wear a mask and because of a conflict with the police that arose after that. The actions of the 63-year-old coach were qualified as “disobedience to the lawful demand of a police officer” (Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code) and later fined 3 thousand rubles. The court session was even postponed due to the fact that Ilyin again refused to wear a mask.

But against Simonova, a criminal case was initiated under the article "Insulting a representative of the authorities." The investigation reported that the athlete publicly insulted the junior inspector and the inspector of the line department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the Pulkovo airport.
