Will break away, or how King Kong from Moldova threatens Rakhmonov

Moldovan UFC heavyweight Alexander Romanov (15-0) will have his fifth fight in the promotion in February. If successful, he will win the 16th win, no defeat, and this will once again put him at the top of the UFC's unbeaten fighters list. The correspondent of bbabo.net talks about "King Kong" from Moldova in more detail.

The 31-year-old fighter, who completed all 15 fights ahead of schedule (one of them is quite controversial, for more details see below), is still not included in the heavyweight ratings. But this does not detract from his merits and does not diminish the level of danger of Romanov for rivals. Right now, he is one of the four best undefeated fighters in the UFC - 15-0.

In addition to Alexander, Arlan MMA Pro Team fighter from Russia Movsar Yevloyev (15-0) in featherweight, Welsh bantamweight fighter Jack Shore (15-0) and American welterweight Sean Brady (15-0) are on the same step. ..

Three more unbeaten UFC fighters have 14 wins each - Kazakhstani welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov (14-0), featherweight from the United States Bryce Mitchell (14-0) and flyweight from Russia Askar Askarov (14-0-1).

At the tournament on February 19, Romanov will play a duel with 38-year-old Swede Ilir Latifi (15-8-0-1). For Alexander, this will be the third fight of the year: in April he defeated Juan Espino (10-2) by technical decision, and in October by TKO - Jared Vanderaa (12-6).

The victory over Espino turned out to be very scandalous. In the third round, an experienced Spaniard unintentionally hit Romanov in the groin with his knee, and after this hit the Moldovan could not continue the fight. The victory was won in such an unusual way by the undefeated “King Kong”.

Romanov has been playing in the UFC since September 2020, and during this time he won four victories. Not a single opponent in the promotion has yet managed to cover the full distance of three rounds with Alexander.

His opponent has been part of a well-known organization since 2013. During this time, Ilir, who is sometimes called "the Swedish version of Magomed Ismailov," won eight victories and suffered six defeats. He lost three of the last four bouts, but defeated Tanner Boser (20-8-1) by split decision in the last fight.

In case of victory, Romanov will bring his record to 16-0. But before him this line can be overcome by Evloev, who in January will meet with Ilya Topuria (11-0). Another leader with 15 wins, Shore is due to face his rival in mid-March.

As for Rakhmonov, he will have his next fight with Karlston Harris (17-4) on February 5. If he wins, he can equal Romanov in the number of victories, including early ones. But already two weeks later, King Kong itself will play its next fight.

Let us remind you that today, December 29, the final tournament of the year in the Naiza FC league will be held in Almaty. The live broadcast of the event can be viewed here.
