The leader of the overall standings of the competition, Norwegian Jonannes Klebo, was in the leading group from the very beginning of the race. The winner of the last season's race, Russian Alexander Bolshunov, who is trying to find his best shape during these starts, did not lag behind him. Moreover, the Russian celebrated his 25th birthday on this day.
The race ended towards the end of the final lap. A group of skiers, which included Klebo and Bolshunov, managed to break away from their pursuers.
