Russia - Museum of Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov to open in Moscow

Russia (bbabo.net), - On Wednesday, January 26, the Tretyakov Gallery opens the Museum of Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov to visitors. A small house in Golutvinsky Lane, where the famous brothers were born, was restored over a long six and a half years, now it will house a completely new type of museum - in one space, things belonging to collectors and their family, virtual reality and masterpieces from their collections will be combined. "There are currently no museums of this kind in Russia," says Zelfira Tregulova, director of the Tretyakov Gallery.

The house in Golutvinsky Lane is the home of the Tretyakovs' parents. Pavel and Sergey spent their childhood there and moved in at the age of 10 and 12. Later, the family rented it out, in the Soviet years communal apartments were located here, and then the building was abandoned for a long time. Zelfira Tregulova recalls that when she first stepped over the threshold of the house in 2015, she was horrified:

- The house was an abomination of desolation - devastation, no communications, no heat, even the ownership of the land was not even registered. In the same year, we began to work on the restoration of the building, and identified the creation of this museum as one of the priorities for the Tretyakov Gallery. So, for all of us and, I think, for the whole country, this is the realization of an old dream.

According to her, with this museum the Tretyakov Gallery pays tribute to the legendary entrepreneurs and patrons who were at the forefront of domestic art collecting.

"We know little about what Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov did, we do not fully realize the scale of his personality. A 26-year-old man sets himself the task that no collector in Russia or abroad has ever set - to create a public museum of national Russian art We wanted to tell how people thought: if you earn with the help of society, then society should give everything that is beyond what is necessary," notes Zelfira Tregulova, and emphasizes that "this is a story about the merchant class, a story about a family, about a collection and about how it was formed.

The creators call the concept of the new museum bold - this is not just a memorial museum, where genuine objects associated with a specific person are collected in showcases, but a place where personality and history intersect. In this case - just two, dissimilar to each other, personalities.

- This will be a place where everyone who wants to, everyone who loves the Tretyakov Gallery, having come, will learn the main thing about its founding fathers. What was the most important thing for the Tretyakovs? Family, business, collection. And so three halls were born that will tell about this, - says Tatyana Gafar, Deputy General Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery for the Development of New Museum Spaces.

The first floor contains numerous archival documents and photographs in the form of multimedia installations. There are no objects here, and the exposition consists of digital albums with photographs, documents, and video films presenting chronicles of events in the life and history of Russia, which reveal the entrepreneurial, charitable sphere and the main business of the Tretyakovs' life - the creation of an art gallery.

The second floor is represented by the offices of Pavel Tretyakov, Sergei Tretyakov and the living room, telling about the atmosphere of the life of the Tretyakov brothers, creating a "portrait" of collectors, their closeness of aspirations and difference in characters. Visitors will see paintings, sculptures, books, furniture, household items.

By the way, now the Tretyakov Gallery is engaged in the following of the so-called small museums. Another house in Golutvinsky Lane - this is exactly where, in the neighborhood, the Tretyakov family with their sons moved. In the future, it is planned to open the Museum of Moscow Collectors here.

Direct speech

Alexander Tynkovan, patron of the project:

- I was very surprised that the Tretyakov brothers still do not have their own memorial museum. This is partly why I decided to participate in the creation of one. Another reason is that the Tretyakov Gallery has a very strong team that is a pleasure to work with. And besides, I always worry when Moscow loses historical buildings. It is very difficult to protect them, but those that are under the jurisdiction of the Tretyakov Gallery are under reliable protection and will be preserved for future generations. The house in Golutvinsky Lane is just one of them.
