Russia - Alexander Rodnyansky announced new projects at the film market in Berlin

Russia (bbabo.net), - It has already become a good tradition - when you go to work at a major international film market or festival, wait for news from producer Alexander Rodnyansky. It happened this time as well. On the EFM market, which takes place as part of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in an online format, Rodnyansky's company presents projects that have not been described before. Three series are in development: two adaptations and a fantastic thriller.

Interrogation of the President is an international project based on the book Listening to the President: The Interrogation of Saddam Hussein by former CIA analyst John Nixon. Director - Oscar nominee and winner of the world's largest festivals Ziad Doueri ("West Beirut", "Insult"). Previously, the project was announced as a feature film, but now it is stated that it will be filmed in the format of a mini-series.

"John Nixon was the first to interrogate the former president of Iraq after his arrest in 2003 - next year this event will turn 20 years old. I immediately understood that it was Ziad Doueri with his unique vision both as a director and as a person who should shoot this story who deeply understands the cultural and historical context in the region in question," said Rodnyansky, who was interviewed Wednesday in Variety.

Another iconic film adaptation is the Psoglavtsy series based on the novel of the same name by Russian writer Alexei Ivanov. The protagonist is a homebody historian who prefers stability to any change. He is forced to go to a remote village in search of his missing girlfriend, whose disappearance is only the first in a series of mysterious events that began in the 17th century around a mysterious fresco depicting Psoglavets.

"From the point of view of the genre, this is a mystical thriller with all the necessary attributes: mysterious artifacts, a sect, ancient spirits in the setting of the Russian hinterland. But in essence, this is a conversation about freedom of choice, personal and civil, an echo of the current debate today: give people the right to choose or forced to "correct"? It is this dilemma that is the main one for the protagonist, "says Rodnyansky.

Also in the line of new projects is the series "Bright Future". The action takes place in 2050. An endlessly mutating virus is raging in the world. A large-scale experiment is being carried out in St. Petersburg: the creation of a space of absolute sanitary safety. The city is divided into three zones with strictly limited movement between them, according to the status of citizens: those vaccinated with an expensive and effective vaccine live in the green zone, those vaccinated with the standard vaccine live in the orange zone, and those who are not vaccinated at all live in the red zone. Life in the "green zone" is devoid of any restrictions, it is a space of absolute security. And it is precisely for the feeling of guaranteed protection from infection that people from all over the world come to St. Petersburg. The city in the space of the series is "northern Hong Kong", where Russians, Chinese, Koreans, Americans, Europeans live together.

According to the plot, one of the main people of the city, the director of the largest pharmaceutical company, is killed - a surgeon, a girl of Russian-Chinese origin, is accused of the crime. But the investigator quickly realizes that the case is much more complicated than it seems...

"Today, the global market is open to international producers. But they must offer quality content that can compete with the projects of not only American, but also the best regional colleagues. A sharp universal story, foreign partners and authors, an international cast are necessary elements. That is why in recent For several years we have been looking for the most interesting ideas in Russia and abroad. In the next two years, the best of them will be put into production," Rodnyansky shared his plans.
