Work on the film "The Last Hero: Messenger of Darkness" began simultaneously with the work on the second film "The Last Hero: The Root of Evil" in 2017, immediately after the filming of the first part. It took about two years to create the script, which, as before, was taken up by the team of scriptwriters of the series "Kitchen" and the film "Kitchen in Paris" - Vasily Kutsenko, Igor Tudvasev, Dimitri Yan and Pavel Danilov under the leadership of Vitaly Shlyappo. The filming of the second and third films of the trilogy also took place at the same time and took a total of more than a hundred shooting days.

According to the plot, the heroes are in search of the beautiful Vasilisa, kidnapped by the witch Galina. Ivan and his faithful friends leave Belogorye and go to modern Moscow. Director Dmitry Dyachenko says that the authors “wanted the final part to have some unexpected twist, a new story. Imagining a hut on chicken legs against the backdrop of a modern city, it seemed to us that it would be a cool shot. and off we go. " In the film "The Last Bogatyr: Messenger of Darkness", the audience, on the contrary, will have the opportunity to look at things familiar to us through the eyes of Baba Yaga, Koshchei, Water, Kolobok ... And at the same time to find out that fairy-tale heroes are also found in Moscow in the 21st century. They filmed a picture in the Khimki region near Moscow, where they found a suitable place for a huge decoration of an ancient Russian city, and behind breathtaking panoramas of a fabulous country, the filmmakers went on a journey throughout Russia: to Karelia, the Perm Territory, to the Caucasus. Galina's apartment was built in the pavilion. It also made the Black Lake, from which the Messenger of Darkness emerges.
