The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the certification procedure for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline should be carried out in a timely manner, outside the political conjuncture.

“The procedure for its certification by the German regulators and the European Commission should not be artificially delayed and politicized. It must be carried out in strict accordance with the current regulations, which we intend to strictly comply with,” the ministry said.

They stressed that Nord Stream 2 will make a “significant contribution” to ensuring the energy security of the European Union.

Earlier, Bundestag deputy Ralf Stegner said that there are currently no obstacles to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, it is only necessary to fulfill a number of requirements.

Nord Stream 2 envisaged the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast across the Baltic Sea to Germany - from the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region to Greifswald. The United States actively opposes the project, promoting its liquefied natural gas in the European Union, as well as Ukraine.
