German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, after talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project would face consequences if Russia uses the energy sector as pressure on Europe, RIA Novosti reports.

“We have stressed again and again at various levels: if energy is used as a weapon, then this will have corresponding consequences, including in connection with this pipeline,” the head of the ministry said.

According to her, the coalition agreement of the new German government states that all infrastructure projects, including Nord Stream 2, fall under EU law. For this reason, the certification of the gas pipeline has been suspended.

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov urged Germany not to politicize the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project.

Prior to this, the head of the Bundestag foreign policy committee, Michael Roth, admitted that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could be used as a tool of pressure on Russia in the event of "aggression" against Ukraine.
