More than a third of debit SberCards are issued without plastic

The share of debit SberCards issued in digital channels at Sberbank increased to 36% in 2021, the bank’s press service reports. It is expected that by the end of next year, demand will overcome the milestone of 50%.

“Sber is consistent in implementing its ESG strategy. Reducing the number of issued plastic cards is a long-term environmental trend, and we see that our customers are consciously choosing the opportunity offered. Among other things, it's convenient. Now there is no need to wait for the plastic to be released. The digital card is immediately ready for use and has all the advantages of a classic one. And losing it is much more difficult,” said Igor Kovalev, Director of the Client’s Wallet Division.

The Plastic as an Option feature was launched last spring. There are no differences between a virtual SberCard and a plastic one: you can pay with it, make transfers and withdraw cash. In order to issue an analog card, you need to click on the “Let’s do without plastic” button in the SberBank Online application. The issued card is activated immediately. If you need a plastic carrier, you can re-order it at any time and pick it up at the bank office, or get it delivered. But in fact, only 7% of those who chose the digital option apply for a plastic card.

Also, in the SberBank Online application, you can link your “number” to an SberPay or other electronic wallet, and pay by bringing your smartphone to the terminal. All information about the card and payments made is transmitted in encrypted form, and transactions can be confirmed using the screen unlock code or fingerprint.

In SberBank Online, you can set card limits, set or change a PIN code, block/unblock and reissue a card. You can view and copy the card data by clicking on the card. Also, if necessary, you can copy the card account details automatically and without errors.
