The EU did not rule out the disconnection of Russia from SWIFT because of Ukraine

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that the EU is working on a package of sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation of the situation in Ukraine.

According to him, the sanctions will affect the economy and finances. He also did not rule out the disconnection of Russia from the SWIFT system.

“Nothing is excluded from discussion. Much will depend on what actually happens. If Russian troops invade Ukrainian territory on a wide front, then this is the worst-case scenario. There are other scenarios: cyber attacks, attacks by unmarked mercenaries,” Schallenberg said in an interview with Presse am Sonntag.

At the same time, the minister opposed sanctions against Nord Stream 2 because of the situation in Ukraine.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain, Minister of Justice Dominic Raab said that London is ready to apply serious economic sanctions against Russia in the event of its "invasion" of Ukraine, and also if it decides to establish a "puppet regime" there.
