CSR analysts spoke about the average life of paper rubles

Analysts from the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) said that the life of paper Russian rubles in their current form is on average from 2 to 2.5 years, while the recycling of banknotes is almost impossible, and their burning leads to greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The fact of the need to dispose of cash in connection with their natural depreciation as a result of circulation remains undeniable. The lifespan of a banknote depends on its quality and means of production. The average life of Russian banknotes fluctuates around 2–2.5 years,” explained Tatiana Radchenko, First Vice President of the CSR.

The publication notes that in Russia, the recycling of banknotes is almost impossible due to the special inks used in the manufacture of banknotes. Burning banknotes that are out of circulation leads to greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, Radchenko claims.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Mikhail Alekseev said that the Bank of Russia would soon introduce a modernized banknote of 100 rubles.
