Moldova - Ministry: Letter from a limited group of carriers is not constructive

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Carriers demand in a letter from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development to present real calculations of tariffs for transport and station services. And if the authorities do not offer “clear and achievable measures to solve acute problems in the industry, corruption processes will not stop”, and carriers will suspend their activities on regular routes in protest, ipn.md reports.

The letter is addressed to Minister Andrei Spin and signed by the Association of Employers of Road Transport Operators. The letter notes that for the fourth month now, carriers serving regular national routes have not been able to reach a common denominator with the ministry on the amount of tariffs for transport and station services.

“Legislative provisions protecting the rights of carriers and obliging the MIRR to apply tariffs based on real calculations are being violated and ignored in a cynical manner by the ministry.” Carriers say they are on the verge of bankruptcy and costs can no longer be covered by fees. In all areas of the country there are routes that can no longer be operated, and their number is growing. In some settlements, all routes were suspended.

The ministry has enough leverage, some even without financial outlay, that could be used to lessen the burden that will inevitably fall on passengers, carriers say. However, the ministry's lack of will and incompetence will force passengers to either pay more for travel or deprive them of public transport services, the letter said.

In response, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development considers unconstructive “a letter from a limited group of carriers that exert public pressure, with the cessation of passenger transportation in the regions of the country, even before a final decision is made, in accordance with the legal deadlines for considering an order to establish tariffs for road transportation through regular regional and inter-district flights." The ministry notes that the only solution is dialogue, which must be carried out without spreading fear among those who use public transport services and without pressure on the ministry that protects the interests of the people.

“We in no way agree with the actions of those who, although they represent only a small part of the carriers, with or without political influence, destabilize the situation in passenger transport,” the ministry said in a press release.
