Russians warned about new fraud schemes with Gosuslugi

Cybersecurity experts warn that phone scammers have begun calling Russians, posing as employees of the Gosuslug portal and offering to “link” their QR codes to the user’s page, Kommersant reports.

Thus, attackers ask citizens to dictate a code from an SMS message, allegedly to activate or link a QR code to a user's page, and thus gain access to the citizens' personal account. At the same time, scammers already have some information about who they are calling, and they also do not require the transfer of funds, which weakens the vigilance of citizens, says Vladimir Ulyanov, head of the Zecurion analytical center.

Fraudsters can use the information received for their own selfish purposes, for example, to obtain loans, experts point out. The Anti-Fraud Center of the Informzaschita company recalled that Gosuslugi stores a lot of information that can also be used on trusted sites where loans, loans or installment purchases are processed by verifying the identity through the Gosuslug profile.

Experts recommend protecting your personal data on the Gosuslugi portal using two-factor authentication. In addition, they recommend refusing to communicate on incoming calls, and in case of doubt, clarify how to contact the person who called or another service representative.

Earlier, the Center for Legal Assistance to Citizens in the Digital Environment told about fraudulent activities with user accounts of the State Services portal.
