Austrian Energy and Innovation Minister Leonore Gewessler said the country is dependent on Russian gas and intends to fight this dependence. She told reporters about this, TASS reports.

According to her, due to the current situation in the country, gas prices have increased.

“We are dependent on Russian gas concerns. The only way out of this in the future is renewable energy, wind power, solar power and hydropower. The sun doesn't bill us, it's the Russian gas concern. This addiction must be fought, not strengthened,” she said.

Earlier it was reported that the EU is looking for alternative sources of gas supply in case of aggravation of relations with Russia. This was announced by the representative of the European Commission Tim McPhee at a briefing.

In particular, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson will visit Azerbaijan on February 4 and the US on February 7 to discuss additional gas supplies to the European Union.
