The United States confirmed the search for an alternative to Russian gas supplies to Europe

White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that the United States is negotiating with gas exporters to Europe in exchange for Russian fuel. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We are in talks with a number of countries and suppliers,” she said, responding to journalists' request for comment on reports that Qatar could compensate gas volumes in the event of a reduction in supplies from Russia.

At the same time, Psaki did not speak about specific countries and other details.

Earlier, European Commission spokesman Tim McPhee said that the EU is looking for alternative sources of gas supply in case of aggravation of relations with Russia.

According to Bloomberg, the countries of the Middle East will not be able to compensate for gas supplies to Europe if Brussels refuses Russian gas. The publication says that energy-rich countries from Azerbaijan to Qatar promised emergency supplies of fuel to Europe, but it turned out that they could not completely replace the main exporter - Russia.
