Belarus bans rail transit of certain goods from Lithuania

Belarus introduces a ban on rail transit from Lithuania for a group of goods amid the fact that the Lithuanian side has stopped the transit of Belarusian goods through its ports. This was reported by BelTA with reference to the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz.

According to him, the Belarusian side has repeatedly proposed to resolve this issue in the legal field, but Lithuania did not make concessions.

“We have made a decision to ban transportation coming from Lithuania by rail,” said the press secretary of the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko announced Minsk's retaliatory measures after the cessation of the transit of Belarusian potassium through Lithuania. He also stressed that Lithuania is already suffering economic losses due to the retaliatory measures of Belarus.

The Kremlin, in turn, said that the issue of reorienting the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers from the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda to Russian ports is currently being discussed.

On the eve it became known that Lithuania stopped accepting Belarusian trains with potash fertilizers, which follow to the port of Klaipeda. In this situation, Minsk redirected the supply of potassium chloride to Russian ports.
