Klitschko urged Berlin to say goodbye to Nord Stream 2

The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, in an interview with Die Zeit expressed the opinion that Germany needs to stop the work of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project if it wants to support Ukraine.

“If Germany wants to support Ukraine, it must say goodbye to Nord Stream 2. This would be an important tool. At such a difficult moment, Germany must act. Of course, I understand that Nord Stream 2 would be good for the German economy. But dependence on Russia is dangerous,” the mayor said.

He stressed that Russia's desire "to return not only Ukraine to the zone of influence" is not a secret. Klitschko also commented on the statement of the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder about Kiev's "saber-rattling", questioning which country the politician was speaking on behalf of. According to the mayor, he spoke "rather for Russia than for Germany."

“I understand that Germany does not supply weapons to the aggressor country. But this is a completely different matter if they want to defend themselves, ”Klitschko said, urging the FRG to“ think strategically ”in the issue of supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Earlier, Vitaliy's brother, Vladimir Klitschko, wrote an application for his inclusion in the Kiev Territorial Defense Brigade.
