Germany set a condition for the launch of Nord Stream 2

The launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline cannot take place as long as so many Russian soldiers are concentrated on the Ukrainian border. This was stated by the head of the German Bundestag Defense Committee Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“As the former Chancellor [Angela Merkel] has always said, Nord Stream 2 is a purely economic project, a private economic project. This, of course, is not true. It has always been associated with geostrategy - if you organize gas supplies to Germany bypassing Ukraine, ”said the head of the Bundestag committee.

Strack-Zimmerman stressed that Germany takes a "clear" position on this issue. So, according to her, Nord Stream 2 cannot be launched until Russian President Vladimir Putin “places so many soldiers on the border with Ukraine.”

Earlier it was reported that the certification of the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline section would be resumed after the transfer of the main assets of the German subsidiary was completed and the completeness of the documentation was verified.

Nord Stream 2 envisaged the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast across the Baltic Sea to Germany - from the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region to Greifswald. The United States actively opposes this project, promoting its liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the European Union. In addition, the project has other countries-opponents, including Ukraine.
