The Central Bank announced the fall in inflation expectations of Russians in January

Inflationary expectations of Russians in January 2022 fell to 13.7%, follows from the inFOM operational survey commissioned by the Central Bank.

“Sustainable decline in inflation expectations has not yet been observed. They continue to exert significant upward pressure on consumer demand and price dynamics,” the regulator notes.

Inflationary expectations of the population in January 2022 amounted to 13.7%, which is 1.1 p.p. below the December estimate, but by 0.2 p.p. higher than in November. Inflation observed by the population also decreased in January: its estimate is at the level of 16.7%, which is 1.0 p.p. less than December figures, but by 0.5 p.p. over November 2021.

The Central Bank noted that the decrease in observed and expected inflation was due to a slowdown in the growth of prices for those goods and services that rose in price the most.

In mid-December, it became known from an inFOM survey that inflation expectations of Russians in December 2021 jumped to 14.8%. The assessment of inflation observed by the population in December also increased and reached 17.7% (in November it was 16.2%).

Inflation in Russia at the end of 2021, according to Rosstat and the Central Bank, amounted to 8.4%.
