India decided to buy fertilizers from Belarus bypassing sanctions

India intends to purchase 1 million tons of potash fertilizers from Belarus. It is reported by the Times of India.

To sell fertilizer, the state-owned Belarusian Potash Company can open a rupee account with the Indian state bank. This will be the first joint deal between the countries after sanctions were imposed on Belarus.

It is noted that opening an account in an Indian bank is necessary due to the sanctions of Western countries that blocked the trade in Belarusian fertilizers in dollars and euros.

In 2021, the United States and its allies imposed economic sanctions against Minsk, citing human rights violations. In particular, the United States imposed sanctions against dozens of Belarusian companies, including JSC Belaruskali.

On January 19, Lithuanian Railways informed Belaruskali about the termination of the transit of fertilizers through the country from February 1, 2022.

A scandal began in Lithuania after the United States imposed sanctions against Belaruskali, and Lithuanian Railways continued to transit Belarusian fertilizers through Lithuania.
