In Germany, they staged a skirmish over Nord Stream 2 and Putin

Because of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, SPD chairman Lars Klingbeil and TV presenter Markus Lanz had a skirmish on the air of the ZDF TV channel.

The host demanded that the German politician publicly say that in the event of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine, "gas will not flow through the pipeline." He replied: “What can be incomprehensible in the phrase “All options are on the table?”. Lantz pointed out that "we shouldn't tell each other fairy tales now." Then the politician noted that it would be foolish to talk about stopping Nord Stream 2 in advance.

Where do you lack clarity? I consider it absolutely stupid to say to Putin, “what if ...”, Klingbeil expressed his point of view. He called for a dialogue with Moscow because of the whipping up of hysteria in the West about "Russian aggression."

“Sustainability and stability in Europe are possible only in cooperation with Russia, and not in the fight against it,” the politician concluded his speech.

The story of a possible “Russian invasion” of Ukraine has been actively promoted in the West since mid-autumn last year. The US has consistently pointed to a supposed increase in Russia's presence near Ukraine's borders, threatening Moscow with new sanctions if it escalates. At the same time, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine, on the contrary, pointing to the possible preparation of a military operation in the Donbass by Kiev.

Earlier, Austrian Minister of Digitalization and Economy Margarethe Schrambeck said that Vienna does not plan to abandon the launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if Russia does not attack Ukraine.
