Russia - Medvedev: Import of certain types of raw materials threatens economic security

Russia (bbabo.net), - Russia's dependence on imports of certain types of raw materials poses risks to the country's economic security, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev. He held a meeting to meet the strategic requirements for mineral resources.

Russia is considered to be a country rich in raw materials, but this is the general picture, the deputy head of the Security Council noted. In fact, huge reserves of minerals are not always rationally used, but could be used for the benefit of the economy and citizens.

"Moreover, there is an imbalance between exports and imports of certain types of mineral resources, and let's face it - despite the vastness of our country and its provision with a significant part of mineral resources, we are dependent on supplies from other countries, which create serious risks for economic security of the state," he said.

Russia is forced to import manganese, chromium, lithium, beryllium, rhenium, almost completely titanium, zirconium. Their suppliers are guided by their own geostrategic and economic interests.

“Some of these countries are not in the easiest relationship with our state,” Medvedev noted. “For commercial and political reasons, they can raise prices at any time or simply stop deliveries. Or use such dependence as a means of pressure on us in the competitive struggle ". Therefore, here it is necessary to pay close attention to import substitution, the deputy head of the Security Council noted.
