Swiss Glencore decided to sell its stake in RussNeft

In December 2021, the Swiss trader Glencore agreed to sell its stake in Russneft. This is stated in the data of the organization.

Glencore owned 23.46% of Russneft through its subsidiary Rambero Holding AG. The sale of the stake is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2022, but the amount of the transaction is unknown.

Due to the news about the sale of shares of RussNeft on the Moscow Exchange rose by almost 4%.

The beneficiary of Russneft is the Gutseriev family. She controls it through the offshore companies Bradinar Holdings (16.1%), Negard Holdings (16.9%), and NPF Safmar. In August 2021, Mikhail Gutseriev transferred 37.15% in the oil company to the Cypriot Vemonar Holdings, which is owned by his brother Sait-Salam Gutseriev.

The change of ownership occurred after the imposition of sanctions by the EU and the UK due to support for the regime of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

RussNeft is the only major oil company in Russia that was created not as a result of the privatization of state-owned enterprises in the early 1990s, but as a result of the consolidation of private assets on a market basis. It was founded by Mikhail Gutseriev with the support of the Swiss trading company Glencore.

In early February, Russneft stated that the Daily Mail article about the resignation of the British Lord Robert Skidelsky from the board of directors due to sanctions was a provocation.
