Russia - Central Bank reveals details of new scam scheme

Russia (bbabo.net), - Fraudsters have increasingly begun to act on behalf of the employees of the Central Bank - such a scheme is designed to lull the vigilance of a potential victim. This was reported in the press service of the regulator.

The essence of the new scheme is that scammers report an attempt to steal funds from the account. To prevent theft, funds must be transferred to a "special" (or "safe") account at the Central Bank.

"In reality, there is no such account, and the Bank of Russia does not work with individuals as with clients, does not maintain their accounts and does not call people on its own initiative," the Central Bank noted (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The regulator emphasizes that sometimes criminals can even remind you of security rules - for example, recommend not to disclose bank data.

"If you get a call from strangers and the topic of the conversation comes down to money, immediately end the conversation, no matter who the caller appears to be," advised Vadim Uvarov, director of the Information Security Department of the Bank of Russia.

Earlier, with a warning about the growing cases of fraud on behalf of the regulator, VTB reported.

In an interview, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia German Zubarev noted that the main attack channel for attackers is a call to the mobile phone of a bank client (80% of crimes), in second place are Internet resources that the client accesses on his own and leaves his personal data and payment card details ( 10%).

According to the Bank of Russia, in July-September 2021, there were more than 256,000 cases of transactions carried out without the consent of customers (40% more than in the same period of 2020). The volume of such operations is estimated at 3.2 billion rubles. Of these funds, citizens managed to return 7.7%.
