Food for borscht has risen in price in Russia

In Russia, the prices for products for the borscht set have doubled from January 2017 to January 2022. It is reported by TASS with reference to Rosstat data.

So, instead of 18.46 rubles, cabbage began to cost 59.96 rubles, carrots increased in price from 26.98 rubles to 48.37 rubles, onions - from 22.43 rubles to 31.4 rubles, beets - from 22.52 rubles to 45.22 rubles, potatoes - from 20.8 rubles to 48.24 rubles.

In January, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that the area under crops in Russia would be increased this year. It is expected that open ground vegetables in 2022 will be sown on 196.6 thousand hectares (+7.9%), and potatoes are planted on 298.7 thousand hectares (+6.7%).

According to the agency, increasing the production of vegetables of the “borscht set” is one of the priority tasks for ensuring food security in Russia.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture named four goods that could rise in price this year.

In December last year, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that rising prices in Russia were “a price to pay for the openness of the economy” in the face of instability.
