Russia (bbabo.net), - The reduction in packaging by food manufacturers can be due to several reasons. So, the main global trend in food packaging for one serving or one snack, said Dmitry Vostrikov, executive director of the Rusprodsoyuz association.

“In modern megacities, more people live alone and are not used to cooking for several servings. In Russia, a package of 3 eggs is still rare. But it is convenient for people who have come on a business trip or are used to eating ready-made foods,” he explained.

Also, sometimes a decrease in packaging is explained by the low purchasing power of the population. But the argument that reducing packaging will help increase the availability of food for consumers is doubtful to the expert. Since then the net price of acquiring a useful product is higher, and the savings are imaginary. On the contrary, in view of the significant increase in the cost of packaging, large packaging is highly preferable for a large family, Vostrikov believes.

Earlier, Kommersant reported that food manufacturers have been reducing the size of packaging more often lately. This helps them to maintain the same value of the product in case of rising costs. This step is taken, in particular, by manufacturers of sweets, coffee, dairy products, and pasta. For example, chocolate can now weigh 82g instead of 85g, and yogurts can now weigh 260g instead of 270g.
