Russia - In 2022, students will be able to receive a grant of one million rubles for start-ups

Russia (bbabo.net), - Today we start accepting applications from students for a grant of 1 million rubles, which they can use to develop their startups. The "Student Startup" competition is held as part of the new federal project "University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform", which is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science together with the Innovation Promotion Foundation and the VEB.RF group.

- According to world statistics, every fourth startup is born in universities. But in Russia this figure is only three percent, - said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. - The main goal of state support for student startups within the framework of the new federal project is to stimulate the development of youth entrepreneurship, to make universities a place to launch and promote business ideas. Grants for 1 thousand young student-entrepreneurs will be "raffled off". The size of each is 1 million rubles.

The first wave of applications for the Student Startup competition will last until April 11, 2022. Projects will be selected in seven areas: digital technologies, medicine and health-saving technologies, chemical technologies and new materials, new devices and intelligent production technologies, biotechnology, resource-saving energy and creative industries.

Bachelor's, specialist's, master's and postgraduate students who are ready to develop a new product, product, technology or service based on their own research with commercialization potential can participate. A student who receives a grant will have to register a legal entity, develop a business plan and a startup website. According to Chernyshenko, even more students will be able to receive grants in the future: in 2023, it is planned to support 1.5 thousand students, and in 2024 - about 2 thousand. Until 2024, the government will allocate 4.5 billion rubles for these purposes.

The Deputy Prime Minister specified: within the framework of the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform project, 15 pilot university start-up studios and 20 entrepreneurial boiling points will be created in 2022. In total, more than 5 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget for this, and it is planned to attract more than 2 billion from extra-budgetary sources.

- Today, more than half of the students have a desire to start their own business, - stressed the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov. - It is necessary to give ambitious guys the opportunity to reveal their entrepreneurial potential, create conditions for working on the first start-ups and attracting investments. In addition to grants, start-up entrepreneurs will also be able to receive support in the form of an annual academic leave, which they can spend on developing a business idea.

Important: a business project can be individual and team. In 2022, funds will be allocated from the state budget for support programs for student entrepreneurial teams and for entrepreneurial Boiling Points in universities.

The head of the department recalled that universities today have a Startup as a Diploma program, when students can defend their own real business project or idea as a final qualifying work.

Comments

Leonid Osipov, Chief Managing Director of VEB.RF for Technological Development and Innovation:

- The formation and stimulation of student activity in the creation of technology teams and start-ups should become one of the drivers for the development of an innovative economy - a generator of "ideas" that can potentially be supported by technology partners and investors. Such student teams and start-ups can grow into companies capable of solving serious technological problems, including within the framework of strategic initiatives for the socio-economic development of the country, including such projects as "Unmanned logistics corridors", "Air cargo delivery", "Personal medical assistants" and others.

Sergey Polyakov, Director General of the Innovation Promotion Fund:

- The competition is great for students who have leadership qualities and who have long wanted to start their own business. They will be able to become leaders of their own companies and understand in practice what a real technological enterprise is, and the grant will cover the costs necessary to create and launch.
