The United States will impose sanctions against the operator of Nord Stream 2

The US administration will soon impose sanctions against the operator of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2 AG. This is reported by the American television channel CNN, citing a source in the White House.

Sanctions against Swiss-registered parent company Nord Stream 2 AG, whose parent company is Gazprom, are effectively the death knell for the project, the official said.

It is noted that this move marks a significant shift in the administration's policy towards Nord Stream 2, as US President Biden had previously opposed tough measures on the gas pipeline so as not to spoil relations with Germany.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed the Ministry of Economy to stop the certification of Nord Stream 2. We are talking about the revocation of the document on the basis of which the Federal Network Agency carried out the certification of the gas pipeline operator.

This decision was announced after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR. According to Scholz, the gas pipeline cannot yet be certified due to the "recent actions" of the Russian Federation.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, in turn, did not rule out that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers does not mean that the project will never be launched.
