German fund refuses to support Nord Stream 2

Erwin Zellering, Chairman of the Board of the Climate and Environmental Protection Foundation MV, said that the organization was withdrawing its support for Nord Stream 2 after the certification of the gas pipeline operator was stopped. It is reported by TASS with reference to the DPA.

“The board of the foundation was unanimous in the opinion that we should take into account this development of events and, as a foundation, we will no longer be associated with the task that we were then entrusted with and firmly stated in the charter of the Landtag (land parliament - approx.),” he said.

The Climate and Environmental Protection MV Foundation was established in 2021 in the German state of Mecklenburg with the participation of Nord Stream 2 AG. Then the Landtag instructed the organization to contribute to the completion of the pipeline despite US sanctions.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed the Ministry of Economy to stop the certification of Nord Stream 2. We are talking about the revocation of the document on the basis of which the Federal Network Agency carried out the certification of the gas pipeline operator.

This decision was announced after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR. According to Scholz, the gas pipeline cannot yet be certified due to the "recent actions" of the Russian Federation.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, in turn, did not rule out that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers does not mean that the project will never be launched.
