The European Commission proposed to ban the flights of any Russian aircraft to and through the EU

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that member countries are proposing to ban flights of Russian aircraft, including private ones, to the European Union. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We are proposing a ban on all Russian-owned, Russian-registered and Russian-controlled aircraft. [They] will not be able to land, take off or fly over the territory of the European Union. This will apply to any aircraft - personal, chartered or otherwise under the control of a Russian legal entity or private person, ”said the President of the European Commission.

More than 20 states have already closed their airspace to Russian airliners, including France, Italy, Norway, Italy, Germany and Belgium.

On the night of February 25, Great Britain was the first to close its airspace for Russian aircraft.

Prior to this, the Russian Federation, in response to similar actions by the aviation authorities of Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic, closed its airspace. The restrictions also affect transit flights through the airspace of the Russian Federation.
