Electricity prices in Moldova may increase up to 40%

Moldova (bbabo.net), - From April 1, the electricity tariff for household consumers in the center and south of Moldova may increase from 1.51 to 2.17 lei per 1 kWh (excluding VAT), and for residents of northern regions - from 2 .04 to 2.51 lei. This is provided for by the draft decisions of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), which the Board of Directors of the regulator is to consider at the next public meeting, infotag.md reports.

In addition, decisions will be made to increase regulated prices for electricity distribution services. Electricity supply and distribution companies applied to ANRE with a request to increase tariffs and prices at the beginning of the year.

In particular, Premier Energy, which provides electricity to the south and center of the country, insisted on increasing the tariff to 2.78 lei, motivating this by an increase in the price of electricity from the state company Energocom, a predicted depreciation of the Moldovan leu, and tariff deviations.

Northern energy companies proposed to raise the tariff from 2.04 to 3.06 lei.

After checking the calculations and arguments of the applicants, ANRE developed its projects and planned to introduce new projects in February. However, at that time the decision was not made in anticipation of new purchase prices for electricity.

As a result of negotiations, the Ministry of Infrastructure managed to agree on maintaining the current prices with the Moldavskaya GRES, owned by the Russian Inter RAO group and providing about 75% of the electricity needs of the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, the contract with Moldavskaya GRES was signed so far for one month - until April 30, 2022.
