Russia (bbabo.net) - The new electricity tariff setting procedure gives regional leaders the right to respond to abuse by consumers using preferential tariffs. The Ministry of Energy said this to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, commenting on the government decree.

The department noted that there is no need to fear an increase in tariffs. "Tariffs for the population are regulated by the state, and the maximum growth levels are determined by the FAS based on the forecast of socio-economic development," the ministry said.

Earlier, the Federal Antimonopoly Service said that the new rules will expand the "tariff menu" for the regions and will not affect prices. The supervisory department stressed that "tariffs for the population will be set taking into account the forecast of socio-economic development and existing measures of social support for citizens."
