Gas price in Europe dropped below $ 1200 per thousand cubic meters

During trading, the price of gas in Europe on Friday, December 24, fell below $ 1200 per thousand cubic meters for the first time since early October, follows from the data of the ICE exchange.

By 15.20 Moscow time, the cost of January gas futures in Europe was $ 1189 per thousand cubic meters. The price has already lost almost a quarter compared to the beginning of trading on December 24, when the cost of fuel was $ 1550.

On December 21, the cost of gas in Europe grew rapidly - the mark of $ 1,800, $ 1,900 per thousand cubic meters was exceeded. The historical record was broken - $ 2,000 per 1,000 cubic meters, at some point the price of 1,000 cubic meters of gas was $ 2,190.4.

Experts attribute the historically high level to a decrease in gas pumping through the Yamal-Europe pipeline and a possible cold snap in Europe. Now in Berlin and other cities of Western Europe, it is about zero degrees.

In early October, the previous record for gas prices was set - November futures were worth more than $ 1,900.
