Putin: Russia is ready for immediate gas supplies via Nord Stream 2

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the completion on Wednesday, December 29, of filling the second string of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline with gas, TASS reports.

“Now, given the difficult situation of our foreign partners, Russia has the opportunity to increase gas exports,” the Russian leader said at a meeting on the passage of the autumn-winter heating season.

The President recalled that in October the first string of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was filled with technical gas.

“Today I am asking Alexey Borisovich Miller, the head of Gazprom, to report on this. added Putin.

The President stressed that this new additional route "will serve to resolve the issue of price stabilization in the European market." At the same time, sustainable supply, first of all, to the country's domestic market is a priority in the development of gas infrastructure, Putin recalled. Therefore, a large-scale program for gasification of Russian regions has been launched, the leader of the country noted.

Earlier, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said that the filling of the second string of Nord Stream 2 was completed on December 29. He added that the gas pipeline is fully operational.

Nord Stream 2 envisaged the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany - from the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region to Greifswald.
