Banks warned about the growth of refusals in loans due to restrictions of the Central Bank

Russian banks may adjust their approaches to borrowers due to the entry into force of the law, according to which the Bank of Russia may impose direct bans on the issuance of certain types of unsecured loans. This is reported by RBC with reference to representatives of banks.

The corresponding law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in December 2021, and the introduction of new measures is scheduled for July 1. According to the law, the Central Bank will have the right to restrict the issuance of unsecured consumer loans and loans by banks and microfinance organizations. This will help protect Russians from falling into the "debt trap."

The regulator also plans to limit the issuance of long-term loans for a period of more than five years, as well as the work of banks with borrowers whose debt burden is more than 80% - those who give more than 80% of their income to repay the loan.

Earlier, the Central Bank reported that from April 1, 2020 to July 1, 2021, the number of Russians with loans increased by 2.4% to 43 million people. According to the regulator, the increase in the number of Russians with active loans or borrowings is due to the fact that more people began to apply for money to microfinance organizations (MFOs). So, in the period from April 2020 to July 2021, more than 600 thousand people applied to MFOs, the number of such borrowers increased to 3 million.
