Signs of price collusion found in actions of the largest gas sellers in Kazakhstan

The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of Kazakhstan found signs of price collusion in the actions of the largest sellers of liquefied gas. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the department.

“These are such companies as Kazmunaigas Joint Stock Company, Kazgermunai Joint Stock Company, CNPC-Aktobemunaigas Company, Kazakhoil Company. This increase was during 2021. If initially this price was in the region of 67 thousand tenge per ton, then by the end of the year it will be more than 100 thousand per ton, ”the department said.

If the companies are proven guilty, they will be fined.

The protests, which have been taking place in Kazakhstan for several days now, began on January 2 due to an increase in the price for a liter of liquefied gas to 120 tenge (about 21 rubles). Previously, the price for a liter of gas was 60 tenge. Two days later, clashes between protesters and the police and the military began in Almaty and a number of other cities.

Against the background of the aggravation of the situation throughout the country, a state of emergency was introduced. The Internet in Kazakhstan is working intermittently for the second day in a row.

On January 5, against the backdrop of protests and pogroms in Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev appealed to the heads of the CSTO states with a request to assist Kazakhstan in overcoming "this terrorist threat."

The first unit of Russian peacekeepers has already arrived in Kazakhstan, and the Belarusian contingent is preparing to leave.
