The future of local bank branches across the UK has been thrown into further doubt after the Government quietly revealed it wants to launch intelligent cash machines that allow the public to deposit cash as well as withdraw it.

The small print of the Budget document revealed the Government is working with the organisation that manages the thousands of cash machines in Britain in order to launch so-called “smart ATMs”.
