Putin's position on mining in Russia revealed

Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the Ministry of Finance on taxation and regulation of cryptocurrency mining, rejecting the idea of the Central Bank to completely ban them. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing three sources familiar with the situation.

According to them, the head of the Russian Federation supports the initiative to limit mining to regions with an excess of electricity, such as Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk and Karelia.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to clarify Putin's position on the issue for the agency.

This week, Putin called on the Russian Central Bank and the government to come to a consensus on cryptocurrencies. He also explained that the proposal of the Central Bank to ban mining and cryptocurrencies is associated with risks for the citizens of the country.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance of Russia prepared a concept for the regulation of cryptocurrencies without the need for any ban.

On January 20, the Central Bank proposed to ban the issuance, mining, and circulation of digital currencies in the country.
