Russia - Minimum prices for vodka and cognac have increased in Russia

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Ministry of Finance approved an order to raise the minimum retail price (MRP) for vodka, brandy and cognac. The order of the department is published on the official portal of legal information, it will enter into force 10 days after publication.

MRP for a bottle of vodka with a volume of 0.5 liters increased by 7.4%, to 261 rubles, for cognac - by 7.6%, to 480 rubles. The minimum price for brandy increased from 324 to 348 rubles.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance noted that the indexation of minimum retail prices for alcoholic beverages is a standard procedure that will help fight shadow production. The explanatory note to the draft order stated that the proposal takes into account the increase in excise rates for ethyl alcohol, alcoholic and alcohol-containing products.

Minimum prices for strong alcohol have been set by the Ministry of Finance since 2009. Recently, similar measures have been discussed with respect to weak alcohol - beer and beer drinks. However, at the last discussion in the Federation Council, all interested departments opposed the restriction of minimum prices for this category of goods. The Ministry of Health, for example, expressed fears that this would provoke a "replacement" among beer consumers with strong drinks. Similar arguments were made by representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
