Firefox Focus started blocking cross-site tracking on Android

The Mozilla Firefox Focus web browser can now protect Android users from cross-site tracking by preventing cookies from being used for ads and activity tracking.

Firefox Focus is a browser for mobile platforms (Android and iOS) with privacy protection features. Full protection against the use of cookies is ensured by the fact that each site stores these files in separate "containers" to block attempts to track the user on the Internet and create his digital profiles.

This privacy feature was first introduced by Mozilla in February 2021 in Firefox 86 for desktop. In June 2021, Mozilla enabled Total Cookie Protection by default on private browsing windows starting with Firefox 89.

Up until two years ago, Mozilla turned on advanced tracking protection in Firefox by default to automatically block cookies from known trackers.

With the launch of Firefox 72 in January 2020, the web browser has also started to automatically block scripts used to fingerprint in the browser and added supercookie protection to prevent hidden trackers from tracking user activity on the Internet since Firefox 85.

The password vault was introduced to Firefox Focus for Android in October 2021, and later it was launched on iOS. The app saves the passwords used by the device owner and allows you to safely enter them again. Mozilla promises that they are highly secure, and access to them can be configured to unlock storage by fingerprint or face scan. The storage itself is synchronized by account with Firefox on other devices.

It also became possible to launch pages in private browsing mode by default. In addition, a quick access function has been added to Focus, which allows users to quickly switch between the sites they visit.

In December 2021, Firefox Focus for Android also added support for SmartBlock, a mechanism that ensures Total Cookie Protection does not disrupt websites when blocking tracking scripts.
